My dream retirement job was to teach at a great university in an area with blue skies and a great college basketball team. The opportunity arose and I took it.

Teaching my new MBAs at Booz Allen was always a great pleasure. They paid attention, they learned quickly and they leveraged our firm’s skills for clients. But getting and keeping the attention of MBA students who may or may not want a career in consulting was more difficult. 1) you were not paying them, 2) you were one of three or four other classes they took each semester.

So I built Powerpoint slides for each lecture, turned the work into a text book for my courses and developed the STAR program, Student Teams Achieving Results, to give them practical experience and to help North Carolina small businesses.
